Managing difficult single tooth implants in the aesthetic zone
Managing difficult single tooth implants in the aesthetic zone

Single tooth implant replacement of teeth in the anterior maxilla have become an important aspect of dental implant therapy. Patients seeking therapy understandably demand that the outcomes are both functional and aesthetic.  Site characteristics and pre-treatment hard and soft tissue conditions can make this goal very challenging for clinicians.  This session will describe some of these challenges in detail by way of case presentations, with the reality that not always perfect outcomes are achieved.  In addition, this session will also consider the management of aesthetic complications on implants already placed, and the limits to what can be done to rectify these problems.

The Management of severely atrophic edentulous sites in the aesthetic zone according to the PGR principle
The Management of severely atrophic edentulous sites in the aesthetic zone according to the PGR (Prosthetically Guided Regeneration) principle

Replacement of teeth in severely atrophic edentulous sites involving the aesthetic area is still demanding: the lack of hard and soft tissue support may render implant placement impossible or inadequate from an aesthetic and functional point of view.
This session will describe the general principles of Prosthetically Guided Regeneration (PGR) and technical details as regards the choice of grafting materials and surgical alternatives for the reconstruction of bone and soft tissues in the aesthetic area. The contribution of digital workflows in simplifying planning and treatment will be also analyzed in detail.
Clinical cases, projection of videos, and description of tips and tricks to optimize clinical outcomes will be presented.

The vexing/frustrating issue of peri-implantitis
The vexing/frustrating issue of peri-implantitis

Dental implants may be expected to be successful for many years, even a lifetime for our patients.  But there is a rise in the incidence and prevalence of peri-implantitis which can cut short the successful life span of a dental implant and/or implant prosthesis. This session will look, in a more philosophical way, the reasons for peri-implantitis and the treatment approach to extend the survival of affected implants. Strategies to minimise the risk of peri-implantitis will also be discussed.

The management of the atrophic posterior maxilla with implant-supported prostheses
The management of the atrophic posterior maxilla with implant-supported prostheses

Synopsis: The lack of bone in the posterior edentulous maxilla because of sinus expansion and/or resorption of the alveolar ridge may complicate or impede implant placement in an appropriate position and with predictable long-term outcome of the implant-supported prostheses.
This session will focus on sound surgical protocols according to the etiology of bone deficits in the posterior maxilla (sinus expansion, atrophy of the alveolar ridge, combination of the two).
A classification of initial defects and strategies of planning and treatment according to the type of defect will be described in detail by means of case presentation and videos.

Immediate implants and immediate loading
Immediate implants and immediate loading

As technology and techniques with dental implants progress, there has been a natural move towards providing patients with immediate dental implant reconstructions at the time teeth are extracted.  This session will focus on immediate implant placement and immediate loading, including single tooth replacement, as well as full arch indications.  Cases will be presented not only to show successful outcomes, but also complications and how they are managed.  For full arch cases, the accuracy of the treatment workflow now allows the delivery of the permanent prosthesis at the time of implant placement, i.e. no longer requiring a period of provisionalization.   Cases will be presented to demonstrate this principle, and to also show the complications and their management.

The management of complications following regenerative procedures
The management of complications following regenerative procedures

Regenerative/reconstructive procedures of severely atrophic sites is still challenging but generally followed by reliable long-term outcomes. However, success rate of these procedure is not 100%, also in very experienced “hands”.

This session will focus on the management of complications following procedures such as GBR, protected regeneration with Titanium meshes, bone grafts, and sinus lift procedures.

Sound surgical protocols and tips and tricks how to manage complications will be presented by way of case presentation. Strategies to minimize the incidence of these complications will be also described in detail.
